How to Swim: Generating Forward Propulsion
Swimming is where we move in the water from point A to B.
Which is why we don't want you to attempt this until you feel comfortable doing the following:
SWIMMING BASICS
1) Can put your face in the water with 0 nervous feelings or anxiety
2) Feel comfortable & relaxed front floating.
3) Feel comfortable gliding forward in the water.
Using your Hands:
Here is a sneak peek from Progression 4 of SwimAble Adult
We take our hands out (palms facing out - so we have maximum amount of surface area to PUSH the water away.
Push the water back
Then we take our arms underneath us, as we pull our hands up our stomach till they are straight out again with palms facing outward.
SWIMMING GLIDE TECHNIQUE
Once you have this movement down enter the water with a forward glide
When we first start we want to feel just the power of our arms, and we try to kick as little as possible. This gives our mind less to think about, so we can relax into the movement.
Then we repeat the process as we swim through the water. And that is how to generate forward propulsion.
